About

Bainhouse, established in April 2007, is a collection of furniture and home accessories brought about by the synergistic efforts of young Malaysian designers and experienced carpenters and craftspeople of Indonesia. With a focus on sustainability, Bainhouse works towards using renewable resources with the least impact on the environment. Following the motto, reduce, reuse recycle, the range is a delightful mix of vibrant colour, natural textures, traditional techniques and contemporary shapes.

The core product is teak furniture showcasing simple lines to suit modern and traditional homes. Bainhouse chooses Indonesian teak because teak wood is not indigenous to Indonesia – all teak wood from Indonesia is either homegrown or harvested from sustainably managed plantations. Rest assured that all teak wood furniture in Bainhouse is either reclaimed or of plantation origin. The furniture is handmade and consumes little energy in its manufacturing. A natural-based finish, which is a healthier and greener alternative to solvent-based finishes is used to give a protective coat and mild sheen to the furniture.

Banana trees, water hyacinth and rattan are other renewable materials used, and woven into daybeds, sofas and armchairs. Clay pots great and small in size, bamboo sticks, coconut bowls, and plant-based placemats complement the scene.

Lampshades are made from fabric remnants to help reduce waste. The remnants are collected from workrooms making designer soft furnishings of high quality, imported fabrics and handmade into fabulous lampshades.

The result is a relaxing space, reminiscent of a tropical beach home or getaway, with a contemporary twist. Each piece celebrates the gift of our Earth and contributes to the economic sustainability of cottage industries in rural Indonesia.
